Regent University Volleyball Coach Makes 2024 College Thirty Under 30

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Oct 21, 2024) – Regent University’s Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach Katelyn Totherow has been named a 2024 College Thirty Under 30 Award Recipient by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Katelyn Totherow, Regent University volleyball coach, honored in AVCA's "30 Under 30."

The Thirty Under 30 honors program recognizes up-and-coming coaches in these different sectors of the sport who serve in a range of roles, from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director. Each of this year’s recipients had to be age 30 or under as of Dec. 31, 2023, to qualify for the award.

This year’s list of Thirty Under 30 College Award recipients includes women’s and men’s coaches who are rising leaders in the sport. These honorees work hard and are passionate about teaching, helping players reach their full potential, and growing the game at the collegiate level.

“This recognition comes as no surprise,” said Michael W. Allen, Regent Director of Athletics.  “I have witnessed how intentional Katelyn is with her student-athletes, how she protects her culture, how she supports the mission of our institution, and truly pours into our teams, not only as volleyball players, but as uniquely made individuals. She has taken a program with no facilities of our own at the moment, a limited budget, and no scholarships, and built a consistent contender in the NCCAA South Region while getting us to the national stage last year.  Katelyn is a rock star.”

Totherow is in her 4th season leading the women’s program and was tasked last year with building a new men’s program for the university. This is a challenge she has gladly accepted, as the men will make their debut beginning in January.

“I desire that athletes get to experience success on and off the court,” said Totherow. “Volleyball has brought me so much joy—and wonderful people to share that joy with every day. I deeply enjoy building relationships with my players that last much longer than their time within my program.”
