Online Loan Entrance Counseling

Students who borrow under the Federal Direct Loan program are required to complete Loan Entrance Counseling before receiving loan proceeds. The Entrance Counseling session is self-paced and will provide you with important information necessary to make informed borrowing decisions. Generally Loan Entrance Counseling is required once per student (see below for more details) we encourage loan borrowers to make a habit of completing the counseling session annually. The information provided assists student’s in managing their student loan debt and prepares the student for successful future repayment.

Borrowers of federal student loans agree to complete Loan Exit Counseling each time they drop below a half-time enrollment status, withdraw, and before graduating. Both counseling sessions are available online here.

In entrance counseling, you will be asked to complete a quiz at the end of each section. The quiz must be answered correctly to successfully complete the counseling session; you will be given an opportunity to correct any mistakes.

The counseling explains the differences between Subsidized and Unsubsidized loan types, as well as important eligibility and cost of borrowing information.

Graduate & Professional Student Unsubsidized & Graduate PLUS Loans

The graduate and professional student loan counseling provides information unique to loan types and terms available to graduate and professional students through the Federal Direct Stafford and Federal Direct PLUS loan programs. The counseling explains the differences between the Unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS loan types, eligibility information (including credit eligibility for PLUS loans), as well as costs associated with borrowing.

PLUS Loan Counseling

Federal Direct PLUS loans require borrower credit approval, unlike the Subsidized and Unsubsidized Stafford loan programs. If an applicant is credit denied for this loan and later obtains approval either through an endorser or an extenuating circumstances appeal made to the Department of Education, the borrower will be required to complete a supplemental PLUS Credit Counseling session before notification of their credit approval will be issued to their college.
