Regent University Library Continues Summer Storytime Series, Featuring BRAVE Books’ Freedom Island

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (June 15, 2026) — The Regent University Library has launched its summer storytime series for 2026, “Story Explorers: The Adventures of Freedom Island,” continuing a beloved community tradition that brings children and families together each week around books, storytelling, learning, and faith. The series began June 3 and runs every Wednesday morning through Aug. 5, featuring books from Saga Two of the widely acclaimed Brave Books Freedom Island collection.

The summer storytime program was developed in direct response to inquiries from Regent University students and community patrons seeking a children’s summer program with a Christian worldview. Since its launch last summer with Saga One: The Origins, the series is growing into a cherished outreach initiative open to the Hampton Roads community. Beyond literacy, the “Story Explorers” program provides families with a Christ-centered environment where children can engage with stories that reinforce biblical values.

Brave Books is a premier Christian literature publisher trusted by over 250,000 families. Its signature Freedom Island series is a picture book collection for children ages 4-12, in which every book teaches a distinct biblical value, incorporates family games, and includes discussion questions. Saga Two: Iron Chaos invites young readers to journey with team Brave as they battle Lester the Lemur and his terrifying pirate ship. Each book in this saga reinforces values like courage, integrity, and faith.

“Parents have shared appreciation for a program in which reading experiences and interactions are centered around Christ,” said Dorothy Hargett, Ph.D., Assistant Librarian and Head of Public Services at the Regent University Library. “As the series grows, our vision is to build upon the four sagas, allowing each saga to provide a unique pathway for children to explore stories, imagination, character development, and faith-based lessons. These connected story journeys create opportunities for children to return each year and experience new themes, adventures, and learning opportunities.”

Regent’s weekly summer storytime sessions are free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to join each Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and registration is not required. For more information, visit the Regent University Library Resource Desk or call 757.352.4150.
