Regent University Announces Anastasios Kamoutsas as 2026 Commencement Speaker

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (April 14, 2026) — Anastasios “Stasi” Kamoutsas, the 29th Commissioner of Education for the state of Florida, will be the keynote speaker at Regent University’s 46th Commencement Ceremony on May 9, 2026. Kamoutsas earned his Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law, and he has been selected as Regent’s 2026 Alumnus of the Year.

“It is an honor to welcome our distinguished alumnus Anastasios Kamoutsas back to Regent University to celebrate and encourage our graduating Class of 2026,” said Chancellor Gordon Robertson of Regent University. “Commissioner Kamoutsas is making a bold and lasting impact on education across the state of Florida and beyond. His steadfast commitment to preparing the next generation for the future will truly be an inspiration to our graduates.”

Following Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ recommendation, the State Board of Education unanimously selected Kamoutsas to serve as Commissioner of Education on June 4, 2025. In this role, Kamoutsas leads the state’s efforts to expand education and career opportunities, strengthen parental rights, and ensure transparency in schools across Florida.

A native of Miami, Kamoutsas began his career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, where he prosecuted some of the community’s most violent criminals. He later served as Counsel to the Dade County Police Benevolent Association, representing law enforcement officers. In 2019, he joined the Florida Department of Education’s Office of General Counsel, rising to serve as General Counsel and then Chief of Staff. He subsequently served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Ron DeSantis, overseeing policy in the Governor’s priority areas of education, law enforcement, and emergency management.

Regent University’s commencement ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Regent’s campus in Virginia Beach. For more information, visit regent.edu/commencement.
