Regent University launches College of Health & Behavioral Sciences in Virginia

Regent University Announces New College of Health & Behavioral Sciences

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (November 1, 2021) – Regent University is pleased to announce the launch of the College of Health & Behavioral Sciences. The college will contain three schools: the School of Psychology & Counseling, the School of Nursing, and the School of Allied Health (formerly the Department of Healthcare Management). Dr. Anna Ord, who has served as dean of the School of Psychology & Counseling since July 2021, has been named dean of the new college.

“We see a growing demand in our country for interdisciplinary care that addresses the mind, body and spirit,” explained Dr. William Hathaway, executive vice president for Academic Affairs at Regent University. “Aligning our nursing, allied health and mental health programs under one umbrella of regulated health professions puts us on the cutting edge of integrated student training and facilitates greater synergy and operational enhancements.”

Aligning the three schools within the College of Health & Behavioral Sciences allows for more efficient student support, resource sharing, and streamlined administration. Hathaway emphasized that current students should experience no disruptions because of the change within the health and behavioral sciences tracks. They can expect no new requirements, no loss of tuition credit and no curriculum changes.

“This is the future of health professions, and we are thrilled to be among the first universities to structure and unify our efforts in this manner,” said Dr. Anna Ord, dean of the College of Health & Behavioral Sciences. Ord added that both undergraduate and graduate education in these critical arenas will distinctively integrate science and faith. “Regent graduates will stand out professionally for their academic excellence, innovative and holistic care, and ability to wisely engage ethical concerns,” she said.

The college will maintain a strong focus on the interconnected strengths of faculty in nursing, healthcare management, health information systems, psychology, licensed and pastoral counseling, human services, and gerontology. As the college adds new disciplines over time, students may also prepare for distinctive career opportunities in business, government, education, public policy, research & development, and more.
